  • A Book Recommendation

This weekend, in our focus on the needs of orphans around the world, I mentioned a book that God first used to open my heart to His in this area.  In case you are interested, the book is “Adopted for Life” by Russell D. Moore.

One of the things we explored this last weekend was the language of adoption that God uses to help us understand our own salvation.  We looked at Romans 8:14-17 where the very Spirit of God who indwells us is the one who moves us to cry out to God as our “Daddy”, reminding us of our glorious position as children and heirs because we have been adopted into God’s family through Christ.  When Jesus was spending His last evening with His disciples, He comforted them by promising the coming of the Holy Spirit since He was getting ready to depart from them.  Look at the words He used… “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18

Isn’t that beautiful?  He promised not to leave us as orphans!  He went to the cross to make our adoption possible!  Then He has given us His Holy Spirit to remind us of our glorious position as sons and daughters of God!
