  • Called to be Holy

Last week, in the message “Sin’s Downward Spiral” we were reminded that Satan is a deceiver and sin is deceptively appealing, it always devastates and it is always against God and others. Sin will take you further than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay and cost you more than you want to pay. At the same time, we were reminded that we are new creatures in Christ and there is not reason for us to either retrieve in defeat or try to legislate our interactions as children of the living God.

We are going to be blogging for the next few weeks to encourage all of us to make this season a season of prayer; to draw near and spend time with our maker. You can do this in anyway you can. When I was working as an engineer I will take two 5 minute breaks and pray as I poured some coffee or walk to stretch my legs. At the end of the week I had prayed for 50 minutes! That was really cool!

Whatever your situation is, please take some time to pray and if possible fast once a week, either a meal or a couple of them and ask the Lord to renew our minds and to not be conformed to this world. Do not live in isolation, be part of the biblical community and know that many of us are praying and believe God wants to press an alertness into us in light of what we are going through, and put in front of us a renewed sense of “we are called to be holy as God is holy”

As you pray and spend time with the Lord, please also join me in meditating on Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
