  • Loveland Church Plant: Why Plant Churches?

    Faithfulness to the Bible

The God of the Bible is a God of mission.  God sent His Son Jesus into the world to redeem people to Himself, for the purpose of knowing and loving their Creator.  This is the good news of the gospel, God reconciling man back to Himself.  Church planting is active engagement and participation in the mission of God, entering into His work of seeing souls saved to eternal life and joining God’s family.  The book of Acts is a book about the birth of the Church, but very much a book about how God advanced His church through church planting.

    Faithfulness to the Great Commission

Jesus came to seek and save the lost.  He called, trained, and entrusted His disciples to carry on the mission of making the gospel known and calling people all over the world to follow Him.  The mandate that Jesus gave His followers in Matthew 28:18-20 goes like this…And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Church planting involves going and proclaiming the Gospel throughout the world and helping those who believe grow in their faith and obedience to Jesus, their Savior.

    Faithfulness to Disciple-Making

When Jesus called his first disciples he said “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt 4:19).  Jesus calls His disciples to be disciple-makers.  This means that holding out the hope of Jesus is both part of the identity and the joyful duty of any true follower of Jesus.  And not only are we to be fishers of men, but we are to help others become fishers of men.  Jesus began a work of disciple-making through training disciple-makers, who would go on to multiply more disciple-makers.  In 2 Timothy 2:2 Paul charges Timothy, a disciple of Jesus, with these words “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”  In this passage Paul speaks to the fourth generation of disciples who are charged to carry on with the same mission and purpose as he himself was commissioned with by Jesus.  Paul to Timothy, Timothy to faithful men, faithful men to those who are able to teach others also.  Church planting is one of the best ways to make disciples, considering that discipleship starts in the harvest field, as those who know Jesus fish for men.
