  • To Lent or not to Lent?

Yesterday was a day on the historical church calendar that many evangelicals miss or don’t even know about; Ash Wednesday.  Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, which is a period of 40 days of reflection, fasting and preparation for the celebration of Easter.  When considering this practice, and whether one should participate, it’s important to be, as Jeremey Houlton would put it, “measured, biblical, and thoughtful”.  Jeremey is a pastor at Choice City Church, the most recent church plant in the Crossway Chapel Movement, and I couldn’t help but put a plug in for him.  That guy is sharp!  To help you think through Lent and your spiritual preparation for Easter, the Gospel Coalition has put out a few good articles over the years here and here.

If you want some structure over the next 40 days until Easter, consider utilizing this Lenten Devotional put out by Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York.

Regardless of whether you participate in Lent or not, I hope that you will be steadfast and devoted to Jesus as you reflect on the glory, sorrow, tragedy, and triumph of the cross!
